Ms. Planet Beach Midwest

Congratulations to Jessica Mason, Ms. Planet Beach Denver Colorado, on her win of the Ms. Planet Beach Midwest regional spokesmodel search. Jessica, a former Denver Nuggets, Colorado Rapids, and Colorado 14ers Dancer and owner of Studio-21 dance in Golden, competed at Shady Gators in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, on Saturday, September 25, to win the regional title over 17 other midwest city and state Ms. Planet Beach spokesmodel representatives.

Jessica's prize package included a tiara, trophy, Ms. Planet Beach sash, $1500 cash, a month in the Planet Beach 2011 calendar, a full magazine spread, and a paid trip to attend the International Spokesmodel search finals in New Orleans January 2011 to compete against the other regional winners for the title of Ms. Planet Beach International. Good luck Jessica!

Professional Audition Prep Sundays

Studio 21 in Golden is hosting Professional Audition Prep Sundays.

Jessica Smith, former Denver Nuggets, Colorado Rapids, and Colorado 14ers dancer, will be sharing her expertise to prepare you for upcoming auditions.

Classes will be held Sunday evenings, from 8 - 9 pm at Studio 21, 1821 Youngfield St, Golden, CO 80401. Drop in fee of $15.

Preparation in technique, choreography retention exercises, resume, costume, fitness, performance, hair and makeup coaching will be offered.

Colorado 14ers move to Frisco, Texas

Colorado 14ers to Move Operations to Frisco -- Team to Begin Play in 2010

FRISCO, TX June 18, 2009 – Texas D-League Management, LLC, has purchased the Colorado 14ers and will relocate the team to Frisco, Texas, it was announced today by NBA Development League President Dan Reed. The team will begin play in Frisco at the Dr. Pepper Arena for the 2010-11 season, but will not play during 2009-10 in order to transition.

Donnie Nelson, Dallas Mavericks President of Basketball Operations and General Manager, will be the principal owner and operator of the team. Nelson brings 23 years of NBA experience with him to the team in Frisco, including 11 years in Dallas’ front office, along with coaching stints with the Mavericks, Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks, and Phoenix Suns. Nelson’s ownership group includes Evan Wyly, a Dallas native and the Chairman of Green Mountain Energy, the nation’s leading provider of cleaner electricity and carbon offset solutions. Colorado 14ers owner Tim Wiens will retain a minority ownership stake in the team. Nelson, Wyly and Frisco Mayor Maher Maso joined Reed at today’s announcement, which was held at the Mavericks’ practice facility located inside American Airlines Center.

“We’re very excited to be in Frisco, an area with deep fan support and a history of successful sports teams,” said Reed. “We're thrilled to welcome such a well-respected and experienced group to the NBA D-League ownership ranks. Not only are Donnie Nelson’s basketball credentials terrific, but he has assembled a group with impressive business credentials as well. Donnie’s investment in an NBA D-League team is a great validation of both our league’s past success and future growth prospects.”

The Frisco team’s new name, colors and logo, along with the coaching staff, will be announced at a later date.

"Texas is one of the hottest basketball markets in the world. We plan to bring an exciting, high octane brand of basketball that's both affordable and fun for the entire family,” said Nelson. “Our team will have a chance to hone their skills in the newly renovated Dr. Pepper center in Frisco. The NBA D-League continues to provide high level competition and excellent opportunities for both its fans and players."

When the team begins play in 2010, it will be directly affiliated with up to three NBA teams, which will be able to assign first and second year players to the club up to three times during a season.

The NBA Development League, founded in 2001, is the NBA’s official minor league and featured 16 teams with direct affiliations to NBA teams during the 2008-09 season. This Fall, two new NBA D-League teams will begin play in Portland, Maine and Springfield, Mass.-- the birthplace of basketball. Eighty-four former NBA Development League players were on 2008-09 NBA end-of-season rosters, amounting to almost 20 percent of NBA players, and the league continues to develop coaches, referees, and front office staff for the NBA and its teams. In fostering the league’s connection to the community, its teams, players and staff promote health and wellness, support local needs and interests, and assist in educational development through NBA D-League Cares programs. The NBA D-League also advances the game of basketball as the research and development arm of the NBA. Throughout the season fans can watch all NBA D-League games on NBA Futurecast, the free live Web-streaming initiative found at nba.com/futurecast.

About the Director of Studio 21 Dance:

Jessica has been teaching dance in Denver since 1993 and studying dance for over 20 years. During this time she has studied with some of the best in the industry, including Mia Michaels, Shane Sparks, Dave Scott, Brian Friedman, Michael Chambers and Sarah Schachterle, current choreographer for the Rockstarz. During high school, Jessica danced for two seasons on her school’s nationally ranked varsity pom pom team. Following graduation she danced for one season with the Colorado Rapids Cheerleaders and three seasons with the Denver Nuggets Dancers. During her time with the Nuggets, Jessica spent two seasons as the female lead in the Batman Stunt Show, fighting and falling off buildings! In 2007, she was crowned Mrs. Colorado International 2007 & is the current Mrs. Bear Creek. Through her work as Mrs. Colorado International, Jessica became an ambassador for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. To further her work and enable other title winners to make the most of their title, Jessica founded a charity networking organization called “The Queen’s Angels” . In 2008 she created the community organization “Project 21; After School, For School”. Project 21 takes the Studio 21 message of “2 Parts Drive, 1 Part Dream” into schools and uses dance to teach life skills and goal setting.

As Jessica’s interests continue to evolve, in 2008 Jessica competed in her first NPC Figure competition, placing 3rd in her division. Following her first love of teaching, in 2006 Jessica became the Director of Dance Education at Peak Athletics Plus in Highlands Ranch. Here she learned from the best on everything from marketing to studio administration. After putting together her first recital in 2007 and seeing the personal growth of her students, she decided it was time to realize her life-long dream of taking her vision into a studio of her own. As Mrs. Colorado International, Jessica found her voice as a role model for today’s youth and wanted to take her message of Integrity and Positive Self Talk into the studio and use dance to teach goal setting. As the studio motto says “2 Parts Drive, 1 Part Dream”, Jessica wanted to give her students the opportunity to succeed through life skill training and character development.

Miss Jessica is the mother of two beautiful children, Devin - age 9 & Nicky - age 3. Both are dancing fools who will surely be seen in the studio! Jessica has a diverse background including dance performance & instruction, pageantry, fitness competition, personal training & choreography, as well as an associates degree in psychology. Studio 21 has been Jessica’s dream since she was a little girl, but it was her children that inspired her to create a studio that not only teaches dance technique, but also positive self talk and skills to succeed in life. As a dancer and a mother, she wanted to create a place for young dancers, former dancers and aspiring dancers of all ages.

Allana Risenhoover, owner of Allana's Academy of Dance, and currently of the Belles Performance Team, and formerly of the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls' Cheerleaders, Colorado 14ers Dance Team, the Colorado Wildcats Minors League Football Cheerleaders, the Denver Titans Minor League Football Dancers and the Northern Colorado Wolfpack Lady Wolves Dancers, held the studio's first open house this past Saturday.

Meet The New Pioneer Press Eagles Chicks!

The Pioneer Press Eagles Chicks have been voted the best cheerleading team in the CHL for the past two years, and over the weekend, tryouts were held to select the members of the squad that will aim to uphold that tradition for the upcoming season.
